Ozzie not eating!

Postby jayne191284 on Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:04 pm

Hes being really picky with his veg, like only eating a mouthful a day, wont touch his loccies but has had a few worms today.

I have noticed he hasnt pooed for a few days. He normally goes everyday.

I gave him a warm bath which he like and drank some of the warm(clean) water.

Anything else i can do with him?

Is he getting ready for a moult? Have you changed his viv at all? These can put them off eating at times. Otherwise keep up the way you have 10~15 min warm bath every couple of days should do it.

If he doesn't bounce back within a week you may want to get a vet to check him for worms etc.

No change to his viv apart from got him a 60w bulb. Have put his 100w back in to see if that helps.

He was cleaned out last week and has done one poo since.

How often do they moult as adults? He hasnt done for a while.

How would he have got worms? What other symptoms woud he have?

Moulting doesn't sem to happen on a regular basis. My guys have moulted twice I think this year. They can pick up worms from the live food among other was, I've never been able to see a number of specific symptoms probably lethargy as much as anything. With your gut the change in light/heat may well have triggered his slow-down. Watch him with the new globe and see how he does.

I called in at my rep shop and he said to keep his temps up and keep giving him veggies daily and keep up with the baths and see how he is in a week.

He has recommended me a herp vet which isnt local but i have transport so thats not a problem. He said he could just be slowing down late. He doesnt seem ill, still basking and walking about and things.

The temps are all right and he gets up for a little wander/bask then goes back to sleep then gets up again, wanders, basks then sleeps.

Taking him to the rep shop tomorrow to see what they suggest then i feel it may be the vets. Wish id of taken out insurance now

but if he looks letargic etc then a check up is a good idea

He hasnt pooed for nearly 3 weeks now but he hasnt really been eating much either. I keep offering him food and im maintaining his temps. Hes holding himself up(which i now is a good sign) climbing, basking etc.

What do i do if he is slowing down late?

At this point I think a vet check is recommended - get a fecal float done to check for parasites etc. - I'd have expeceted him to brighten up by now.

if he hasnt pooed in 3 weeks he will be very bloated and looking uncomforable

book a vets for tomorrow then today get a warm bowl of water and pop him in it and leave him in it for around 20 mins then massage his tum

hopefully this will get the desired effect and he will feel a lot better that could be the problem if he cant poo he wont eat the bath will help loosen the tummy

its possible he has a bit of impaction going on

There is one other explanation - but I can't really tell from here. If your weather has been really changeable over the last three weeks that can have an effect on him and cause these symptoms. I notice on another couple of forums that people have been having similar problems.

He looks fine though. Not bloated and happy in himself. Wandering round still, just like normal.

I have been bathing him and doing the tummy massage but there doesnt seem to be anything there to unblock!?
